Breath of NEW Life for an Old Woolworth’s in Haywards Heath
DMP have submitted a full planning application to Mid Sussex Council.
Interestingly, for the significant redevelopment of a substantial town centre detached retail unit in South Road, Haywards Heath.
The former Woolworth’s shop which closed in 2008 and has been identified on Woolworth Museum Website as one of the ugliest. Co-Op and The Post Office occupied the ground floor and upper parts from 2009 until they vacated in early 2019.
DMP now instructed by the landlord to consider the redevelopment of the site and approached Mid Sussex Council in mid 2019 with a pre-application.
A scheme was developed and submitted in late 2019 which is currently awaiting approval in February 2020. The proposal comprises of two self contained retail units (4000 sq.ft and 1,500 sq.ft respectively) with new shop fronts, in addition;
- new infill extension at ground and first providing new stair/lift core
- new front façade to upper parts (much needed to rid the building of its ugliness)
- rear first floor extension to provide extended gym at first floor level
DMP are currently Project Managing the procurement stage and developing with the Structural Engineer the construction drawings, liaising with Utilities providers for new incoming services and potential tenants for the various demises.
