Life as an DMP Intern: Read what Morgan has to say…..

A month goes by so quickly, that is certainly the case when you are an Intern with DMP.

Our new Intern Morgan has completed his first month and has taken to the new opportunity with spirit and enthusiasm. Studying level 3 Construction in the Built Environment at Maidstone College 3 days a week, he joins us Monday & Tuesday learning on the job, blending the skills.

Speaking to Morgan, he comments; 

“DMP shone out from a lot of other companies, the main reason is they are RICS and ISO9001 standards. When I contacted DMP they were extremely happy to help with my work experience, stayed in touch throughout and they invited me in for an interview a week later.

When I arrived into the office, straight away I felt a friendly atmosphere, everyone working in a professional way to suit the environment, immediately made to feel welcome, which helped me build my confidence prior to the interview.

In the first month I have learnt:

• Understanding different computer programs, Excel, ACDSee pro and being able to navigate my way around the company shared drive.
• Site visits with John using different equipment such as, a Disto measuring device, used to complete a measured survey. How to complete a measuring audit on the device.
• Being assigned independent tasks, collating significant photos on site, writing up health and safety checks and other similar documents, contacting companies to get various quotes.

So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at DMP, it has already helped build my confidence, expand my knowledge and gain on/off site experience which has helped in my college work. I particularly enjoy going on-site and seeing the progression on the interesting projects. I enjoy shadowing John, understanding what it is like to manage a project and getting it to run smoothly while keeping clients happy. Its interesting seeing different departments within the office working together.

My goal for the next 6 months is to use this valuable experience in college to achieve a higher grade. My goal is to obtain an apprenticeship in Project Management or Building Surveying. Working for DMP throughout and beyond, my target would be to complete this by late 2019.”

We look forward to following Morgan on his journey of learning and development. We shall be reporting on his advancement through these early training footsteps within the construction industry.
