Summer Refurbishment Works Underway

Works are progressing well at More Park Catholic Primary School, where DMP is providing Architectural and Contract Administration services.

The project is taking place during the school summer holidays. This allows a significant programme of improvements to be completed while disruption to pupils and staff is kept to a minimum.

Improving the School Environment

The refurbishment will improve both the appearance and functionality of several areas of the school.

The works include:

• New flooring and decorations
• Replacement radiators
• New WC cubicles
• Improvements to classrooms and teaching spaces

In addition, a new infill extension to the nursery will create a much-needed reading space for pupils.

Internal alterations will also provide a new baby-changing area and improve the layout of the new Year 6 classroom.

Good Progress on Site

Following DMP’s first weekly site inspection, the works are progressing quickly.

Classrooms have already been stripped out ready for refurbishment. Excavation is also underway for the new floor slab and foundations to the new external walls.

Responding to Site Conditions

Working with existing buildings can sometimes reveal unexpected conditions once construction begins.

During the excavation works, an existing drainage run was discovered within the area of the new foundations.

DMP responded by providing the contractor with an updated lintel detail and the additional information required. This allowed the works to continue while helping to minimise disruption to the programme.

Keeping the Summer Programme Moving

Completing school construction projects during the summer holidays requires careful coordination and quick decision-making.

DMP will continue to undertake regular site visits, monitor progress and provide the contractor with the architectural information needed to keep the project moving.

The works are another example of DMP’s experience within the education sector, helping schools improve and adapt their buildings to provide better environments for pupils and staff.
