Gillingham
Project Management of New Music Block
Client Brief
DMP were instructed by a Grammar School in Gillingham, Kent to provide a new Music facility, the design of which was to be in keeping with the architectural style of the existing school buildings and to easily achieve planning.
Modern school buildings require that they are multi-functional, sufficiently flexible to meet demands of a ever-changing teaching curriculum and be available for the use of the general public outside of school hours.
The DMP Solution
First stage of the clients brief was to design the new music block to meet the varying requirements from School, heads of department, teachers and the like. Upon agreeing a final layout a formal planning submission was made to Medway Council which was approved with minimal planning conditions.
On securing planning permission, construction drawings and building regulation notes were prepared in order the works could then commence during the Easter school holidays with completion set for following Christmas school holidays. .
DMP were commissioned to procure the building works in additional to managing the third party consultants to design out the structural elements, acoustic provision and specialist mechanical and electrical services.
A JCT Intermediate Contract was entered into between the School and Principal Contractor and DMP Project Managed the Construction Phase, which required careful attention to Health and Safety regulations whilst building within the school grounds.
A successful completion was achieved staying on budget and handed over within the agreed time-frame.
Overall DMP offered full Architectural Consultancy, Planning and Project Management services in accord with the client original brief. One notable service DMP offered was the specialist acoustic provision of the four recording studios and main recital room.
